I will meet with you before the birth of your baby so that we can get to know each other. We will also discuss the postpartum period and how to care for yourself, your newborn and their siblings. If you plan to breastfeed we will also go over the basics together. And finally we will talk about what you expect of me as your postpartum Doula.
My primary goal is for you to recover from your birth. Postpartum is a moment to heal physically and emotionally. I want you to rest, eat, feed your baby, and do easy activities with your older children. Nothing more! You have someone that you can trust to take care of the rest so that you can focus on what matters most.
My other focus is on helping you live your life with a new baby on board. I will help you with in-home newborn nurse care, breastfeeding, and on any other problem or concern you might have. It could be accepting your new body or how to get organized in the morning to get everybody ready to leave for school. My goal is for you to feel serene, strong, and supported. I want you to find balance between being a woman and being a mother so that you can value yourself as a mother but also enjoy your partner or go back to work with serenity.
This is an example of what postpartum doula support looks like:
Once your baby is born I will welcome you home after your stay at the hospital, and I will help you get comfy and relax.
I will start by taking care of your baby by changing her diaper and preparing a bottle while you take a shower. Then while you feed the baby, I will empty the dishwasher and prepare a meal for you. While you eat, I will start a load of laundry, empty the trash, and take the dog out for a walk.
The next day, I will lightly clean your house and we will go to the store together. When we are back, I will do a puzzle with your older children while you give a bath to your newborn. Then, while you care for your other children or call your best friend, I will carry your newborn in a baby carrier while I fold the laundry.
Before you go to bed, I will help your baby get a good latch so you can breastfeed comfortably. I will change her diaper and put her down for the night. I will go to sleep and when the baby wakes up I will bring her to you so you can breastfeed lying down in your bed. I will change her diaper and put her back to bed. I will continue to care for your newborn this way until it is time for you to wake up, and I will leave while you start your day well rested.
How awesome does that look like?
I will stay available for you by phone or email 24/7, for the 4 weeks after the end of our contract so that I can answer any questions or concerns. No topic is off the table!
You can purchase postpartum hours for a minimum of 4 hours a day and 8 hours a night. You can also purchase our 36 hours package or build your own.
I want you to rest, eat, feed your baby, and do easy activities with your older children.
Nothing more!
